I'm going to be making my mare an uber-posh bridle soon and so I want to do her a padded headpiece.
The padded bridles that are about at the mo, e.g. the heritage comfort and Elevator, have the noseband headstrap comes on TOP of the headpiece.
Obviously this increases comfort for the horse, but I don't think it looks as good (other that screaming "I have an Elevator" )
I'm thinking of trying to do the padding so that the noseband strap slides BETWEEN headpiece and padding not sure if this would work, still be secure etc. I suppose it would involve the pigskin being stitched onto the foam, before being stitched onto the headpiece but leaving each end open?

Hi Becky
I have made a couple of "Comfort" bridles in the style you describe with the noseband over the top but I have also just been asked to make one with the noseband stitched into the headpiece. I have seen one like this before and they seem to have buckles on both sides to adjust the height. The only drawback I can see with this is that you wouldn't be able to swap with conventional nosebands very easily.
I quite like the noseband over the headpiece design and the horses really seem to like it and go really well in them, much softer and more willing generally.
I hope this is helps, let me know if I can help any further, Jo

I suppose that would be better than leaving it underneath as usual Joanne. You will find the leather will stick to the foam as you try to push it through so the best thing to do would be to put a layer of thin leather inside so the leather could run against it. I think the comfort headpiece is a brilliant idea because I am sure a lot of horses get headaches, migraine etc. You can see it in their eyes. So anything which can alleviate that must be good.

Almost all of the bridles I've been making lately are of the 'Comfort' style. The horses do really seem to prefer them.
